The distinction between news and views or opinions lies in their nature, purpose, and how they are presented to the audience.
| NEWS | VIEWS/ OPINIONS | |
| DEFINITION | News is a factual and objective account of what has happened or is happening. It provides information based on verifiable data, observations, and evidence. | Views or opinions are the subjective expressions of what individuals think or feel about something that has happened or is happening. |
| CONTENT | News focuses on the events, occurrences or developments. | Opinions/views involve personal interpretations, judgments, and assessments. |
| OBJECTIVITY | Journalists aim to present news without bias, personal opinions, or subjective interpretation. | Opinions/views are inherently subjective, reflecting the individual’s perspective, beliefs, and values. |
| VERIFICATION | Information presented in the news is expected to be accurate, fact-based, and verifiable. | Unlike news, opinions/views are not subject to verification as they are based on personal feelings and interpretations. |
| GOAL | The goal is to inform the reader/audience about the essential details of an event or issue. | The purpose of opinions/ views is to express personal viewpoints, provoke thought, or engage in discussions about various topics. |
